Personal Development
Welcome to our Personal Development page
Our Personal Development lead at Beulah Hill is Armony Bonney. She can be reached at a.bonney@harrisbeulahhill.org.uk
We have designed our Personal Development Curriculum to support the character development of our students throughout their journey at the Academy. This curriculum is delivered via tutor sessions and assemblies.
We are also meeting all the statutory requirements for Personal Development whilst also addressing some contextual issues. Our students are regularly asked for their input about our PD curriculum which we review accordingly.
At Harris Academy Beulah Hill, Personal Development (PD) refers to “the development of knowledge, skills, dispositions and habits which will promote and support our students in leading healthy, happy and fulfilling adult lives.” Our curriculum encompasses a wide range of themes including:
- Personal, Social, Health and Economic education (PSHE)
- Relationships and Sex Education (RSE)
- Social, Moral, Spiritual & Cultural Education (SMSC)
- Careers Education
- Citizenship Education

- Our academy values (Scholarly, Aspirational, Compassionate)
- Black History Month
- European Day of Languages
- Scholarship and challenge
- British Values
- First Aid
- Safeguarding
- and so many more.
Each assembly links to our wider personal development curriculum, often introducing, developing or building upon content studied in Personal Development sessions. Our assemblies are engaging and relevant to our students.

Personal Development
The purpose of our Personal Development sessions in tutor time is to equip our students with the knowledge and experiences they need to live healthy, happy and fulfilling adult lives.
We have carefully sequences our Personal Development Curriculum around six themes:
- How do we culture respectful relationships?
- How do we keep safe online?
- How do we keep safe in my community and in relationships?
- How do we care for our minds and bodies?
- How can substance abuse affect us?
- How do we protect and understand our changing bodies?
Collectively, these six themes address both our statutory responsibility to deliver the DFE’s Health, Relationships and Sex Education framework (2019) and go beyond this, addressing concepts and themes which we have identified as important for the students of Harris Academy Beulah Hil.
At the bottom of this page, you will find overviews of the Personal Development Curriculum delivered during tutor time. We regularly update our plans to reflects input from our students.
As of 2020, the delivery of statutory Relationships and Sex education (RSE) and health education has become statutory in schools. More information can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/relationships-education-relationships-and-sex-education-rse-and-health-education
Parents have the right to withdraw their child from some or all of sex education delivered as part of statutory RSE. Should you wish to withdraw your child from any/all of our RSE, we would request that you arrange a conversation with a member of the senior leadership team to discuss and ensure that your wishes are fully understood by the Academy by emailing info@harrisbeulahhill.org.uk .
