Year 9 Option Process
Students in Year 9 are entering a vital phase of their education, as they will be making choices about what to study for the next two years for their GCSEs. It is important that the Academy and family work together to help guide you and inform these important decisions. The choices you make will be among the most important decisions in your school career and will have an impact on the rest of your life. The subjects you choose to study may well lead to an A Level, University degree, career or lifelong passion.
Our KS4 curriculum is designed to ensure you study a rich and broad variety of subjects offered within each option block, which will enable you to flourish in the next step of your education and life. Students shouldn’t make their choices based on what their friends are doing or whether they like a particular teacher. They should choose options that they enjoy and are likely to have the best possible outcomes.
We have high expectations for all of our students and would encourage as many students as possible to study subjects that allow them to achieve the EBacc (English Baccalaureate). This would include choosing at least one of the humanities (History or Geography) and a language. This route is strongly recommended for those students considering applying to a top university. We also offer a range of vocational qualifications that combine coursework and examinations, alongside a number of creative subjects that ensure students can develop their passions.
All students will continue studying English, Maths and Science, Religious Studies and Physical Education. And will now have the opportunity to choose between History or Geography alongside three other subjects.
To help you make this decision you will find detailed course information and advice the Options Booklet below.
