Art
“Drawing is exercise for a restless imagination.”
-- Tim Burton
The Art and Design curriculum aims to not only enable our students to make outstanding progress at KS3 and gain qualifications at KS4 and KS5, but to also engage students with the best that has been imagined and created. To enable our students to fulfil these aims, we have developed an engaging, creative and diverse curriculum that encapsulates our Academy values.
At the very core of our curriculum, we aim to arm students with the key artistic skills that will inspire them to invent their own works of art. Students will become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art techniques, enabling them to become a confident and indepedent artists.
We believe that art provides an opportunity to develop expression, creativity, confidence, self-esteem, and resilience. Students embark on a journey of personal growth through taking risks by experimenting with materials, techniques and processes and learning how to generate ideas.
We aim for all students to complete their artistic studies with a sense of the meaning of art beyond the school gate. Students will know about great artists, be able to think deeply about an artwork and in turn be able to make reasoned judgements and reflect on their own work. Students will gain an understanding of how art shapes our history and contributes to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation. We endeavour to open our student’s eyes to how art is at the very core of how the world functions as we know it – from the clothes that we put on each morning to the buildings that form the community around us.
Further details of the curriculum can be found in the documents downloadable from the bottom of this page.
